The Secret Behind Sparking Creativity & Innovation at Ferrari
The Italian automotive manufacturer Ferrari is famous for its formula one and supercars, but Ferrari’s innovation journey is much more exciting. In the interview session with Harvard Business Review conducted in 2006, Mario Almondo who was Ferrari’s director of HR opened up on how creativity and innovation go hand in hand at Ferrari.
Almondo and the stakeholders at Ferrari believes that creativity cannot be taught in a systemic manner and Ferrari conducts creativity club sessions to improve employee creativity. These sessions include people from various artistic streams and helps to improve employee creativity. These sessions help people at various organizational levels to connect outside organizational work hours.
Almondo also stressed on the importance of employee training and Ferrari adds a touch of creativity to this through Ferrari Uomo program in which employees can brush up their skills at specific time intervals during the day virtually.
The key takeaway from this, according to Almondo, is that these creativity sessions manage to accomplish what regular training sessions fails to achieve. Approaching creativity at an organizational level is surely one of the reasons behind Ferrari journey into what it is today.
